I painted this piece during a defining turning point in my life. As a single mother, my ultimate goal was to live on my own with my two kids. After getting out of a bad situation and then getting my associates degree, I was able to find a home to rent for the 3 of us. It felt so freeing to be independent.
This is what I wrote when I finished this painting:
You see that storm behind you?
You abandoned a sinking ship. It was hard but you knew if you stayed you wouldnt make it. You found a way o breathe when you were drowning. You made it to the surface after every wave tried to crush you.
It seemed like it woudl never end, like years were passing and ou were getting nowhere. Gasping for breath as you tried o stay afloat. You thought it would take ages to find the shore but you never gave up.
ANd look at you know. Stnading on your own two feet. You made it. You did it even though it was hard. You survived everyting you thought would end you.
So that storm behind you? Remember its behind you and you are going to make it.
